I must first point out that I was telling my friend Ben about Guy Fox day and told him to look it up on Wikipedia and he had to correct me on the spelling of Fawkes :) So thanks darling! Anyway, I will tell you what I was told about Guy Fawkes day. Many moons ago there was a religious and political battle going on in Europe (we have come so far haven't we) and Guy Fawkes and his group had organized a plan to blow up Big Ben (not my friend Ben but the clock tower). Well the Brits were able to catch Fawkes and they hung him. So every year they celebrate his hanging in England with massive fireworks shows (similar to our 4th). So Chris and I enjoyed the fireworks in the park across the street from our flat on Wednesday night. They were gorgeous! Although it was interesting to hear Disney music and star wars music being played to the fireworks as opposed to something like Proud to be an American.
It has been very interesting being in a different country during the election time and hearing what people have to say here. First, I think my dad might keel over and die if his only news source was what they give out in London. Its pretty one sided is basically what I am getting at. People here love politics and love to talk about them and they know more than most Americans I have ever known. They love to ask who you voted for and what your opinion is on every political issue. I can expand more on this in person because I think I could get on a soapbox right now.....
Lastly, I would like to say that I am loving my new British co-workers. They love karaoke, why....I have no idea. But I have unfortunately partook in this ridiculousness. In order for me to become "accepted" I was literally forced to sing Born in the USA. It was interesting to say the least....I think they were singing "She was Born in the USA" louder than I was singing "I was Born in the USA".
Thats all for now. Ta
